The Foundation's strength lies in the city's many community volunteers whose dedicated service and generous contribution of time, talent and resources have helped develop Hercules Public Library into an outstanding facility.

If you love libraries, enjoy learning new things, and can give three hours per week,we'll do our best to find the right volunteer job for you.

 

In-Library Support Services

volunteerCollection Maintenance
Keep your library in pristine condition by keeping newspapers and magazines in order; check for materials needing repair.

Library Greeter
Greet library visitors, provide basic directional information, and instruct library users on the use of the self-check machines.

Office Support
Provide library staff with office support by filing, distributing flyers to schools or other community agencies, posting community information on library bulletin boards, and assisting with other tasks as needed.

Public Service Support
Assist staff with a variety of daily tasks such as opening duties, clearing the book drop, and retrieving library books or items from shelves that have been placed "on hold" by library patrons. A great job for a library sleuth!

Shelving & Shelf-Reading
By shelving and keeping the collection in order, you perform a valuable service to library users and staff.

Computer Docent 
Computer docent may teach classes as well as assist individual patrons with basic introduction to the Computer and Internet, how to use a mouse, setting up an e-mail account, and how to search the Internet.

Friends of the Library

bookstore2Friends Book Store 
If you've always dreamed of working in a book store, here's your opportunity! Work with customers, maintain shelves, manage donations and do online sales research. The Friends Book Store sales support the purchase of new library books and library programs.

The Friends of the Hercules Library support the library with book sales and fundraisers. The proceeds enable the library to offer programs for children and adults, purchase additional library materials, computers, and furniture, and make other services available. For an annual membership fee starting at $5.00, or by volunteering your time to the Friends of the Library, you can help support the Hercules Library.

 

Hercules Library Foundation

From time to time there are vacancies on the Hercules Library Foundation Board of Directors. If you are interested in a Board position, please contact the Foundation and submit your name for consideration.

Not sure you are able to commit to a Board position?  The Foundation is always looking for willing hands to assist in planning various fundraising activities throughout the year. Submit your name to the Foundation and we will add you to our volunteer list.
